At this point, (December 27, 2017), I think it is prudent to keep my name out of this. There are several things which might happen:
This solution might be totally ignored.
This solution might be ridiculed.
This solution might garner the attention of every crazy person in North America.
and so forth.
My hope, of course, is that serious analysts will take a look at it and offer feedback to

I'll respond to sensible questions and responses. I think a lot of effort, by some very smart individuals, has gone into the work on the 340, and I hope we can put this to rest soon.
It is obvious that any progress I present here is only as a result of the smart and sophisticated work of others. I did this work only in the hope of demystifying The Killer.
Further, I think the glorification of the Zodiac is an abomination. He was an awful person, and to see him described as a genius is sad. He used a homophonic cipher, of a sort that is easy to do but hard to decrypt. Then, I contend, he used uncommon words, abbreviations, and junk lines to make it far more difficult. Only the (false) hope that solving his cipher would solve the crimes he committed gave any currency to the whole puzzle.
So, let's put to bed the idea that The Killer (The Zodiac) was a genius. He was a psychopath, a pervert, human filth. He deserved a life of imprisonment, which is what I hope he got. And let's do one more thing; shows like "Dexter," in which mass murderers are presented as heroes, should similarly be put to rest. The heroes are the people who will run into a burning building to save a life, the people who run toward gunfire to save someone.
As for me; I'm a person whose scholarly specialty is the analysis of texts, in a statistical context. I imagine that's no surprise.
I don't incline seriously toward the sort of 'new era / new age' thought that talks of spirit animals. But I do admire turtles; they just put one foot forward, then the next; soon enough, the slow little animal, carrying his house upon his back, has traveled miles. In the same amount of time, the speedy rabbit has run in circles, and gone nowhere. Poor CARMEL, the speedy supercomputer, got nowhere. But perhaps the Dell desktops I got at the Goodwill made some headway, humming along for a month?
And, unless they get too big, they can even turn themselves back over, if they somehow get upside down.
And, considering some of the observations about the (purported) decrypted message, perhaps my admiration for the turtle has deeper roots, considering the nature of the world; Akupara is the world tortoise, upon which the world stands. What lies below that? As Hume said, "it's turtles all the way down."
And, so, with my best wishes for better dialogue, and for an end to the notion that the Zodiac killer was anything near to a genius,
Hermann Akupara
